WOTW 2022/Operation Neptune

Operation Neptune, also known as D-Day or the Disaster of June 6, was a failed amphibious invasion of Normandy in German-occupied France on 6 June 1944 by the Western Allies. The invasion was intended to setup a beachhead in Normandy allowing the Allies to liberate France and open up a second front against Germany in Western Europe. It was also planned to be the largest amphibious invasion in history with over 1 million to be involved. However, the invasion failed and no beachhead or second front was set up. It is considered one of the largest military disasters of all time and a key point in World War II.
