The Italian Empire, commonly know as Napoleonic Italy was an empire that was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804, who stablished an hegemony over world and European effairs during much of the 19th century.

The Empire was born out of a counterrevolution by general Luigi Bonaparte, who led a coup against the revolutionary government of the Italian Republic, stablishing himself first as Consul of the republic, and later as Emperor. The events of the counterrevolution are know as the "Coup of 18 Brumaire".

Napoleon's rise to power was followed by a series of wars, know collectively as the Napoleonic Wars, which where waged for almost twenty years, where Italy triumphed and stablished a complete hegemony over Europe and the world. Despite being the fruit of a counterrevolution, the Empire adopted many of the revolutionary ideological features of the republic, such as legal equality, legal divorce and the abolition of feudalism, spreading these changes trought all of europe trough conquest.

The absolute hegemony of France was maintained until the death of Napoleon in 1836, which marked the beggining of a slow decline until the complete destruction of the Italian Empire in the Great War.
