AlternateWiki:How to create an article
From AlternateWiki
This guide will use the Source Editor. It will also assume you know the basics of how to create a wiki page (Wikipedia, Fandom, and most other wikis use MediaWiki which is the software used for this wiki). Anyone is allowed to create a page but please don't vandalise other people's pages.
Steps[edit | edit source]
Step 1: Creating the page[edit | edit source]
- Visit the URL of the wiki and replace the article name (where "AlternateWiki:How to create an article" is for this page) with your desired article name. The format for article names is "Section Name/Article Name." The article name should be in short form (i.e. United Kingdom instead of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).
- Once on the page, click the "edit" or "create this page" button.
Step 2: Writing the page[edit | edit source]
- Write the content of the page from an in-universe perspective. Avoid phrases like "The Evil Empire was an empire in the Super-Evil timeline." Instead, write "The Evil Empire was an empire."
- Look at similar articles on platforms like Wikipedia to get an idea of how to format your article.
- Consider using infoboxes to display relevant information. Infoboxes are usually placed before any text. You can find templates for infoboxes on Wikipedia, and there is also a custom template called Template:Infobox polity created by User:Tombricks for countries, subdivisions, and geopolitical organizations. For templates that are not yet on this wiki, message tombricks on Discord.
Step 3: Adding categories[edit | edit source]
- Add the required section category for all articles by including Category:SECTIONNAME articles i.e. Category:Pseudopedia articles.
- Include additional categories based on the content of your article, such as Category:Countries, Category:Political parties, Category:People, Category:Conflicts, etc.
- {{Retc|REALCOUNTRYNAME}} should be added to generate related topics categories. Example: {{Retc|United Kingdom adds Category:United Kingdom-related topics and Category:Europe-related topics. See Module:Related topics category for the possible categories.
Step 4: Publishing[edit | edit source]
- After completing the page, use the "Show Preview" option to review your work.
- Once you are satisfied, click "Save Page" to publish your article.
Remember to adhere to the guidelines and avoid vandalizing other people's pages. Happy editing!
