The Havering People's Revolutionary Party (HPRP), formerly the Havering Revolutionary-Socialist Party and also known as the Havering Independence Party, is an unregistered left-wing Havering nationalist and socialist political party and that seeks to form an "Independent Republic of Havering". The party has not had any elected representatives since its founding in 2022 and its founder, Thomas Bricks, leads the party as Chairperson of the Central Committee.
History
The Havering Revolutionary-Socialist Party was founded by Thomas Bricks in August 2022 and renamed the Havering People's Revolutionary Party in December. The party constitution was published in June 2023 with the Foundation Congress planned to be held soon.
Organisation
The party constitution defines the structure and rules of the party. The main party body is the Central Committee, the Chairperson of which serves as party leader, which is the highest authority between party Congresses. The party follows the principle of democratic centralism meaning decisions made by the Central Committee must be obeyed by the membership.
Policies
The party constitution officially describes the party as revolutionary socialist, anti-imperialist and in favour of independence of Havering. The party ideology is largely controlled by Thomas Bricks.
Nationalism, independence and the United Kingdom
The party supports the idea that the London Borough of Havering is a nation and advocates the creation of the "Independent Repiblic of Havering". The party traces the history of Havering way back to the pre-unification Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Essex and the regio/subkingdom/tribe of "Haeferingas" which would later appear in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Haueringas" which would become the Royal Liberty of Havering. This was the namesake for the London Borough of Havering created in 1965 from the Essex county districts of Romford and Hornchurch. The party describes itself as patriotic and supports a national rebirth.
Havering is considered by the party a "now-inseparable" part of Greater London and it supports increased autonomy for Greater London, and Havering within it, within the United Kingdom until eventual independence. With regards to the United Kingdom as a whole, the party takes a radically anti-unionist approach, supporting Irish reunification, Scottish independence, Welsh independence, etc, and the creation of a decentralised and voluntary confederation of sovereign states in Great Britain.
Constitution
The "Independent Republic of Havering" is envisioned as a unitary presidential republic dominated by the party as the dominant ruling party and the National Revolutionary Front as a front of other mass organisations. The party believes Havering would be best under control of the party but that there must still remain an opposition voice to ensure democracy.
Revolutionary socialism
The party officially supports revolutionary socialism and believes that true independence can only be attained through it. The party deems itself revolutionary due to its support for radical structural transformation and, for the mean time, does not support a violent revolution. The party view of socialism is based on (an un-educated view of) Marxism and practices a form of Leninist democratic centralism (freedom of discussion, unity in action) but does not adhere to Leninism overall. The party ideology also takes some aspects of the North Korean Juche idea such as the importance of self-reliance in political, economic and military affairs.
Foreign affairs
The party is anti-imperialist and opposes the global dominance of the United States as well as potential dominance by other powers and sees economic dominance over countries as a key part of modern imperialism. The party also opposes "old-style colonialism" where a country directly controls a land without political independence or self-governance (such as the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean) and supports independence movements across the globe. The party opposes most foreign interventions and invasions and calls for a replacement for the United Nations.
National Revolutionary Front
The National Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of Havering is a popular front led by the Havering People's Revolutionary Party. It consists of the following organisations:
- National Revolutionary Youth League of Havering - Youth wing
- Havering Women's Union - Women's branch
- Havering LGBTQ+ Union - LGBTQ+ branch
- Havering Friendship Association - International pro-HPRP association
